THE PROCESS
BACKGROUND
The New Zealand Ministry of Education commonly creates websites that hold mass numbers of digital resources varying in content length and type. As this type of resource focused sites are produced often, creating a consistent resource search/catalog and resource information page become an important and necessary part of our designs that evolves at every new site we create. I have been one of the primary designers for the “resources” components and sections for our websites, but work collaboratively with other Web Services designers with their sites
INITIAL RESEARCH & IDEATION
Upon our initial investigation and ideation creating our first major resource focused site in 2018, Kauwhata Reo, I initially analyzed websites that contained similar types of content, layouts and user interactions. Analysis focused on “resource catalogs” and “resource pages” I produced a competitor analysis for these sites including sites with a focus on websites that their primary target audiences (such as teachers and students) would use. By conducting this analysis gave us an initial starting point for how to start designing an impactful search and browse experience.
